The striking blue metallic pendant was hand made by me in polymer clay using a technique based on an ancient Japanese metalworking technique called Mokume Gane. The Japanese made magnificent Samurai swords etc. with this technique that involved the bonding in layers of several colours of precious metals, then manipulating the shape and cutting thin sheets from the resulting block, which had an integral grain pattern of contours where the different colours of metal had changed direction. The result was much like wood grain, hence the name, which describes the eyes of wood captured in metal.

I have done the same with polymer clay, many thin layers of pearl blue and silver were pressed together, then impressed with a flower shaped printing block which caused a contour type pattern through the layers, from which thin slices of design are cut. The surface is completely smooth and has been wet sanded and polished smooth and finished with a gloss acrylic sealant to seal in the shine. The reverse is plain but marbled with the same colours and finished to the same standard, so it could be worn reversed.

The pendant is attached at each top corner to a fine weight of silver plated chain with beaded wrapped loops with silver and blue Japanese Toho seed beads. There are more beads higher up the chain and a pair of matching earrings with hand-formed silver plated earwires.

The pendant is approximately 33mm (1.3") x 23mm (0.9") and the necklace is 520mm (20½") overall, but this can be adjusted if you'd like something different - it closes with a lobster clasp. The earrings hang 31mm (1.2") from the top of the ear wires.
